How to use one blog post over multiple channels to create maximum traffic and results - step by step guide
10 Step by Step ways to maximise your blog's results on social media
All too often we at CR4L get asked about blogs: when to post, how to post and most importantly - how to get maximum effect from your efforts.
If you go to the trouble of writing a blog post (and one a week is the by the way) you want it to have an effect. So here we have written out an easy to follow 10 step system to maximise one blog post over social media and multiple channels.
Step 1. Write a great blog post
Find something interesting to talk about and share it. Preferably make it useful too – like this post. People may like it enough to share it with others they think may find it of use. That is one of the key things – offer help and don’t just talk about your latest offer or how great your business is*
Step 2. Share your blog post on social media
Leverage the power of social media and spread the word to one and all. Ideally you need followers. But you can’t get followers until you have supplied good content. So the content comes first and you will have to build the followers over time.
There are few quick ways to succeed here. If you are looking to get followers you first need to have something to follow – useful posts and content. No chicken and egg here – you have to put the work in to get quality results. For help with this ask CR4L.
Step 3. Quote the post and re-share over at least a week (only around 8% of your followers will see any one post)
Timelines and feeds move so quickly that only an average of 6% of your Twitter followers will see any one post. Therefore you need to repeat important posts each day of the week at different times. Don’t make one post your only post; keep variety but you can be repetitive without putting people off.
Here is where you can get good results even if you don’t have a lot of followers yet; here are a few top tips...
On Facebook you may not have many likes as yet but you will know pages that are complementary to your business; “like” these pages and then you can post on them (most of them). Tell them about your blog post and quote bits from it. Be helpful and play up the use of reading your post.
On LinkedIn you doubtless will be a member of many groups. Be sure and join groups where your prospects will be. Then post about your blog here quoting it and using the link. Again try to show readers the value of reading your post. Ask for comments and feedback to get the most engagement.
Step 4. Pin images from your blog post to Pinterest
If you don’t have a Pinterest account don’t worry too much – its bigger in the US that in Europe. However if you are trying to maximise your reach then Pinterest could be useful.
We have found Pinterest very effective for FMCG and to promote products that have a great visual element so keep it in mind. If you can – pin all the images from your post to one of your boards – or create a new board for the post.
Step 5. Create a PowerPoint Presentation from your images and share it on Flicker/Slide Share
Again, not for everyone and you may not use these channels. However if you do this is a great way to bookmark your blog post.
you will also need your PPP for the next steps - so you might as well do this anyway!
Step 6. Use the PPP version of your blog post to create a video
YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world – and its owned by Google. So if you want to do well in searches this is where you need to be.
A lot of our clients struggle to produce videos so this is a great way to get more videos for your YouTube channel. All you need to do is turn your slide show from PPP in to a video and put a voice over on it. You can even read out the blog post as the slides change. It’s that simple.
Some titles and maybe some background music would be nice but they are not essential. Just think if you did this for every post every week you would soon have lots of great content on a fantastic and relevant platform.
Step 7. Put your new YouTube Video on your website
Websites with video on them are more than twice as likely to be on page one of Google searches. So once you have created your video be sure and put it on your website. The best place will be your blog and then you can follow steps 2 and 3 again and promote the video across multiple social media platforms.
Step 8. Use the audio from your video to create a podcast
Podcasts seem to have fallen out of favour lately but they can still get a lot of exposure and some people do little else. The author Jay Conrad Levinson (Guerrilla Marketing) uses them and recommends others to do likewise.
Take the audio from your new video and create a podcast that you put on iTunes. You can ten put this on your website and follow steps 2 and 3 again.
Step 9. Use your blog post images to create an infographic
Infographics have become very popular ways to provide information in an easily digestible form. They are also easily shared and get attention.
You can use Photoshop, Publisher or a variety of online tools to create smart and informative graphics. These images are then easy to share and spread around the web. Be sure to include your business name and website in the image itself so that if it is shared your message goes with it.
Once you have created your infographic you can post it on your website. Use it as a blog post and then follow steps 2 and 3 again.
Step 10. monitor comments and engage with your audience
One of the most important things with social media is to engage in conversation. If you can get people to engage and comment on your posts they will do much better and spread further.
Be sure and respond to comments and get back to people who ask questions as quickly as possible. See how the conversation develops and that will also help you to write your next blog post.
